Anatomy of a Scene

The first movie I chose to watch is “Moonlight”. This movie has a very powerful message and is a very emotional film. This young, gay, black man is trying to figure out who he is in this world as he is constantly getting bullied. All of his friends and family are telling him that he needs to figure out who he wants to be. The scenes overall are well made. They make me feel like I’m right there with them just like any good movie scene should do.

The second movie I chose to watch is “what we do in the shadows”. This movie is a comedy/horror about these four vampire roommates that have special abilities. I have chosen the grocery store scene to elaborate on. The scenes in this movie looks like they were shot using a hand held camera, really giving it that documentary feel throughout the whole film. The lighting in this scene is pretty dull, giving the scene a kinda gloomy feel. The lighting feels very down and sad. I do feel like the lighting used in this movie does fit the movie the way its written, it matches pretty well. They are just trying to be as normal as possible and fit in the best they can which can come off funny because in reality they don’t fit in because they are vampires.
